Sibenik Channel Fortress

Welcome to Sibenik-Channel-St.Nicholas Fortress

This fortification, unique in the Mediterranean, was being built for fifteen years to defend Sibenik from Turks approaching by the sea.The fortress  was completed in 1553 year. Its chief architect, Girolamo San Michellis, representative of Venetian Mannerism in architecture, achieved this triangular complex to become an impregnable bastion for all that imposed the threat to Sibenik Town.

No more enemy vessels just cruise ships

Interestingly enough, the fortress in the the St. Anthony Channel has never been attacked. As an impressive construction , by itself was a terror to the enemy. It was recorded in the 17 Century that the crew upon the  captains order launched some cannon balls on a Spanish vessel, unsuccessfully.
